Charles Muchunku is a Senior Consultant, in Camco, a consultancy company in energy and sustainable development, in their office in Nairobi, Kenya.

He holds an MPhil and BSc in Physics and 6 years of project experience in the energy field in Eastern Africa. He has a technical background in solar photovoltaics and has worked closely with both public and private sector stakeholders on projects targeting commercialization and uptake of renewable, sustainable and clean energy technologies through technical support, capacity building, skills transfer and energy policy development. In addition to playing a key role in the Kenya PV Capacity Building Initiative, Muchunku has also developed PV training courses and solar PV manuals and has undertaken numerous training activities for solar PV technicians in Eastern and Southern Africa. Charles has also worked on development of CDM and voluntary carbon projects and creation of mutually beneficial linkages between community focused energy initiatives and clients interested in securing carbon offsets. His main interests in the project are the following: 1) Studying the technical and economic aspects of the Indian Community Power Plants i.e. system sizing, design and installation, energy collected and energy used, operational and maintenance requirements and arrangements (both technical and financial), tariff setting and structure and how the capital cost was financed. 2) Doing energy needs assessment for the proposed demonstration project 3) Design, equipment sourcing and installation of the Kenyan community based system, end user training, setting up of structures for operation and maintenance and developing tariffs.
